I never asked the maid to hand wash the baby clothes because I don't think it is cleaner than using the washing machine. I use washing machine to wash the children clothes separately. Until now, my girl is 5 and my boy is 3, we are still doing the same.
I have been using washing machine to wash my son's clothes since he was born (sometimes ask the maid to rinse off urine/milk/dirt on the clothes first before putting them in the machine).
He is now 3 and I still have a separate load for his laundry.
I only ask my maids to handwash the stains on my kids' clothes and then dump them into the washer to wash. All my kids' clothes are washed in one load from the day they were borned. They are washed separately from the adults' clothes in the washer.
