No way, this is a very wrong statment.

The same case happened to my friend, he bought a BMW X5 in Dec 05 and it delivered soon after the 06 New Year, the sale then told him "this is considered 06 new model. But when he sold it in 07, his car was treated as 05 model instead of 06 and the price difference between the 2 years was something like $50K.

So do make sure you tell your sales that you want a car that is being made in Jan 08, not being delivered.

His car was made in 05, may be Dec 05, but the sales told him that as he would only be collecting his car in Jan 06, it would have been considered 06 car, but all that was rubbish, of course.

Take my case as an example, my M8 is made in Oct 08, took Nov shippment, arrived HKG yesterday and will only be available for pick up next week.

So for your case, if you want to have a real 08 car, you won't receive it till towards the end of Feb 08, because it's only being made in Jan 08, shipped in Feb 08, arrived HKG in middle of Feb 08, available for you by end of 08, agree?

Just can't wait to get my hands on my baby.

I would be grateful if you can share your friend's experience to me so that I won't be 'cheated' by the sales.

The Mazda sales told me that (also I heard the same in an forum [not the mazda8 forum]) Customs treat car imports arriving HK after 15 January 2008 as 08 cars. Grateful if anyone can confirm this (whether you are sales or not).

The vehicle registration doc will show clearly the year made of the car. Also, I just looked at my M8 doc, both the temp insurance cover note & the "Details of Vehicle" from the Mazda sales marked down "Year / model" as 2007 / M8.

My hubby said he remembers the sales told him the same that any cars arriving HKG after 15 Jan 08 will consider 08 made.

Let me double check with my sales for you, ok?

In my opinion, I think 18" rim will be too bumpy / hard. 17" should be fine. Too bad that Mazda HK does not come with an option for 17" original rim with Mazda 8 same as Japan. In fact, my old 323' is using 14" only and I still feel bumpy when driving across uneven road and sewage covers. (maybe shock absorber is failing)

You may want to try the stock rims and tyres first and then decide whether you want to keep them.

You think so too? This is in fact what I told my hubby already and he said if really no good then go for 17" rims & tyres. He has made up his mind to change, he wants the car to look cool, so he will go ahead just a matter of whether there are 17" or 18".

However, I can assure you that there should be no problem using 18" rim, except you are changing to a much wider tyre!

BTW, if he wants "Cool", he should choose Black instead of Pearl White!! White is intrisically "Not Cool"!

Black is not our option, because 1) the black of Mazda seems not as black and shine as those luxury Benz / BMW / Lexus, etc. 2) black car seems to have a higher rate of accident (because black is less alerting to people and difficult to see in the dark) 3) easy to look dirty and need frequent cleaning.

Silver colour is good. Our car is silver now. Your pt 2) is very correct but I never have thought of this before, then it's good that we have chosen a pearl white M8 this time.

買2手車....記得搵HKAA或者HKMI check車....不論車行定自讓....上手賣得出來可能覺得有0的野壞壞地賣佐佢換架新既比起拎去整更好....車行係中介人賺佣幫買賣雙方成交....呢個世界有買錯無賣錯家嘛!

畢竟係highway開住80~110km/hour係拎自己條命出來行架....小心為上check真0的先買!:idea:
