I would like to let my baby girl to attend local primary school. Which school you think is better?
1) Wellborn full day international
2) Boxhill am class
thx!
My daughter has started half-day international PN class at Wellborn since Dec 2010. It is a purely Eng class with say 20 mins PTH learning. My daughter's class teacher is native speaker (though with a Chinese face....maybe "mixed") who is quite nice. If I pick up my daughter after sch, the teacher will report how kids perform. For any speacial issues, the teacher will also call me for reminders or dsicussion. But the sch fee, uniforms, books and miscellaneous fee are rather expensive.
At the first beginning, I also planned my daughter to take full-day class. But the sch fee is rather expensive. And I only intend to let my gal to study PN only at Wellborn (already got offer at kinder in Kln Tong).... so I changed my mind to shift to half-day class.
If you wanna to let your kid to have more exposure in Eng, it is good to take int'l class.... but as u wanna your kid to study at local primary school, then you must take full-day int'l class with Chinese learning at the afternoon.... with additional book fees.
But its international class is purely Eng-teaching with full esposure in Eng.
thx all reply!
charlotte,
which school (k1) ur kid attend now? do u think is it good to study wellborn in n1 ?
i know that in k1 interview, there has many kindergarden need chinese and english.
i afriad when that my girl dont know chinese if only focus on one language.
Up till now, everything goes fine at Wellborn. I believe there is not really much Chinese learning for half-day int'l class....as my gal has not got big improvement in Cantonese since Dec 2010. But she can sing more English nursery rhymes. If u wanna yr kids to learn Chinese and attend local primary sch, u have to pick up full-day int'l class rather than the half-day class.
As before the age of 2, mostly, I spoke Eng to my gal. And my maid can only speak Eng too. At the very beginning, I was just afraid it was not so easy for my daughter to adapt school life if the class was fully conducted in Cantonese. Therefore, we chose Int'l Class rather than Local Class. Now, my gal's cantonese has got little improvement though it is rather slow in comparing to other kids. I have been trying hard to train her Cantonese or PTH in these few months.
Some kinders really do not prefer kids answering in English.......and they just wonder if the kid can really understand Cantonese or not. For my gal, she had got K1 offers from Catiline, Creative Primary School Kindergarten, York, Stafford & Soka..... but I could tell u all these interviewers accepted my gal to answer in Eng... or some even could allow us to choose the language at interview (like Stafford, the interviewer was a NET). We are just holding up the seat of Stafford up till now.
Kids will be more confident at interview if they are using their best language. So if kids can only speak Eng, it may hinder kids from good performance at interviews conducted in Cantonese. But some kinders may prefer kids to speak better Eng (like Stafford, Creative....).
To simsim wong, my gal is still in PN at Wellborn .... and will start K1 elsewhere. But from the very beginning, I've planned my gal to take K1 at kinders in Kln Tong or with 一條龙. But it does not mean that Wellborn is not good.
