I've just passed by Swindon (TST Harbour City) last night and found they are ON SALE!!
All books are 20% off!! This price should be cheaper than Commercial Press and 3-Luen which offerred 15% off before.
I saw plenty of ORT Read at Home series (w/CD) $68@ before discount. Various stages of ORT trunk stories and more stories are available too, but just around 10 sets left!!
Offers valid in Habour City shop only till 13.3.2006.
1. What is the different between ORT and OST, which one is better?
You may refer to my previous post in below.

Actually the content of Oxford Story Tree (OST) is extracted from Oxford Reading Tree (ORT), so they are in substance the same, except that ORT use past tense in writing whereas OST use present tense instead.
Besides difference in illustration and tense used, OST is relativly cheaper and includes also a vocal CD and exercise books in the set.
For ORT, the paper quality is better and you can choose to buy its respective CD-ROM which contains word games and stories.
Actually ORT Stage 1/1+ to Stage 5 CD-ROM can be borrowed from public libraries.
2. where can I buy it in a cheaper price
For ORT, cheapest way is to buy in Singapore. All ORT books are fixed price item in HK. But you may get a discount if the bookstore is on sale.
You're most welcome. I just want to share with you what I know.
Actually OST is newly published in these 2 years, maybe that's why you found people like ORT more!!
Basically all major bookstores e.g. Commercial Press, 三聯, Dymocks will have stock of ORT & OST.
Oxford Storyland is called "牛津故事樂園",I bought the mainland China version from Simp Chin bookstores. The style and content are totally different from ORT/OST.
You may go to Country Wind or Idea to take a look.
Which series your kid finished and what about your recommendation ?
I want to teach phonics for my kid by myself , but I haven't learnt it before, can I learn it with my kid together? Which materials do you think is better ?
My kid has just finished reading ORT stage 8 and we're about to move forward to Stage 9.
Though ORT is quite expensive, it's really worth to own cos the books are carefully designed in different stages, texts are well-written, and stories are interesting too!
If you want to let your kid to do exerices/comprehension, OST is a good choice with no doubt.
I started reading ORT with my son when he's about 3.
It's hard to tell how long for each level bor.... it depends on your kid's interest, his eng reading ability, your time available to spend, and how extensive of the scope you wanna cover.
Though my son has reached Stage 8, he will sometimes re-read lower stage (even stage 1) books.
If your eng is good or have sufficient time to read with him, you may just read the books along with your kid. If not, then you may play the vocal CD for him.
Can he write now? If yes, then the exercise books are excellent for comprehension.
In my opinion, Letterland is vv good in teaching phonics. I started home teaching of Letterland (the 26 alphabet sounds and 5 vowels) when my son was 3. Then I sent him to eng learing centre for advanced learning.
Swindon = 辰衝, located at 3/F of TST Harbour City (next to Marks & Spencer)
